President Bola Tinubu has thrown Nigeria’s weight behind clean energy and marine innovation as Lagos made history on Friday, hosting Africa’s first E1 electric powerboat race.

Tinubu in a goodwill message on Friday, quoted in a statement by Lagos Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, praised Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the sponsors for bringing the championship to Nigeria, describing it as a milestone for clean energy and marine innovation.

He said Lagos was making history as the first African city to host the E1 championship, joining Monaco, London, Jeddah, and Venice on the global calendar.

“This championship is not merely a thrilling spectacle on water but a statement of intent.

“The E1 Powerboat series combines world-class entertainment with clean energy innovation, showcasing electric-power vessels that point the way to a greener and more sustainable future,” Tinubu said.

The President linked the event to his administration’s vision for the blue economy, noting that the government is committed to building prosperity around renewable energy, marine tourism, and coastal infrastructure.

“By investing in our coastal infrastructure, marine tourism, and renewable energy, we create jobs, open new opportunities for youth, and strengthen Nigeria’s place in the global community,” he added.

At various events held nationwide, teachers’ unions and education stakeholders decried the slow pace of policy implementation, poor remuneration, and inadequate teaching facilities, which they said continued to undermine the quality of education.

APC condemns VeryDarkMan’s attack on Akpabio over Pope’s funeral trip

 

The South-South Zonal chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Sunday gave popular social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, otherwise known as VeryDarkMan, one week to tender an apology to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, over the manner he disparaged him in his latest video.

While urging him to draw a line between activism and slander, the APC also admonished him against going after the former Akwa Ibom governor again in future.

The warning was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Zonal Organizing Secretary of the South-South APC, Blessing Agbomhere.

Agbomhere was reacting to the social media sensation’s scathing verbal attack at Akpabio for leading a five-man federal government delegation to the funeral of Pope Francis at the Vatican last Saturday.

Junior Pope’s death shatters Nollywood, drama rages on

The peace in Nollywood, and by extension, a large part of the country, was shattered on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, when a popular actor, Pope Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, and three others were confirmed dead when the boat they were travelling in after returning from a movie set capsized in Asaba, Delta State.
