Onitsha Head Bridge in Anambra State was blocked on Wednesday as residents protested the ongoing closure of the Onitsha Main Market, following a directive by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
In a video shared by the African Democratic Congress, protesters are shown barricading entrances to the bridge, chanting “No way in, no way out. Onitsha to Asaba blocked. Stand till!”

The Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service LIRS, Ayodele Subair, says reports that the LIRS will take unpaid taxes directly from the bank accounts of residents of the state is far from the truth.
Subair stated this when he appeared on Arise TV on Tuesday, January 27.
The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) over the weekend released a statement saying it will begin enforcing the recovery of outstanding tax liabilities from defaulting taxpayers through third parties, including banks, employers, tenants, debtors, and business partners. The agency said that the action is in accordance with Section 60 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025 (NTAA 2025), which grants LIRS the legal power of substitution.
“The NTAA 2025 empowers the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service to direct any person holding money on behalf of, or owing money to, a taxpayer who has failed to pay an established final tax liability when due, to remit such money to the Service in settlement (or partial settlement) of the outstanding tax,” the notice stated.
According to the statement, the 'Power of Substitution is a lawful collection mechanism designed to ensure efficient recovery of unpaid taxes, including Personal Income Tax (PIT), Capital Gains Tax (CGT), Stamp Duties and Withholding Tax (WHT) administered by LIRS.”

he International Monetary Fund has reviewed upwards Nigeria’s economic growth forecast for 2024 from three per cent to 3.3 per cent.

The updated forecast marks an increase of 0.3 percentage points from the previous 3.0 per cent growth prediction published in the IMF’s January 2024 World Economic Outlook.
However, the IMF has taken a more conservative stance for 2025, reducing Nigeria’s economic growth forecast to 3.0 per cent, a slight decrease from the 3.1 per cent projected earlier in January.
The global economic outlook also received a modest boost, with the IMF raising its growth forecast for 2024 to 3.2 per cent, up from the 3.1 per cent projected in the January 2024 World Economic Outlook. The forecast for 2025 remains unchanged at 3.2 per cent.
