Critics' Choice Awards 2019: 10 best dressed

The looks you need to see from last night's red carpet

Critics Choice Awards 2019

1. Maggie Gyllenhaal in Prada
Maggie Gyllenhaal's champagne-hued, silky Prada gown was classic and simple but head-turning at the same time with its long train and puffy sleeves. She complemented the look with a dark red lip and diamond stud earrings.

3. Lady Gaga in Calvin Klein by Appointment
Critics Choice Awards 2019
Lady Gaga continued her award-season style with another dramatic train. This one – which may have been slightly more understated last week's Valentino Couture – featured on a beautiful and simple light-pink strapless dress by Calvin Klein. She kept the simple glamour in her beauty look with Hollywood waves and pink lips.

4. Nicole Kidman in Armani Privé
Critics Choice Awards 2019
Nicole Kidman looked impossibly chic in a black strapless gown, which featured a white skirt and volume at the side. While from some angles, it looked incredibly simple, from others, it was seriously fashion-forward.

5. Gemma Chan in Jason Wu
Critics Choice Awards 2019
In a sea of monochromatic gowns, Gemma Chan stood out in this beautiful floral gown by Jason Wu. The off-the-shoulder style and exaggerated train created drama, which she let do the talking, keeping her make-up pared back and wearing her hair in an understated plait.

6. Julia Roberts in Louis Vuitton
Critics Choice Awards 2019
Julia Roberts has clearly got a new favourite style of red-carpet ensemble, again choosing to wear trousers with a dress over the top in a similar fashion to the Stella McCartney look she wore at last week's Golden Globes. It had a slightly more toned-down feel, but just as chic.

7. Laura Dern in Saint Laurent
Critics Choice Awards 2019
Laura Dern proved that black dresses do sometimes belong on the red carpet in a sequin Saint Laurent number with daring cut-out detail

8. Laura Harrier in Louis Vuitton
Critics Choice Awards 2019
Laura Harrier was another lady in white, wearing a sleeved, embellished Louis Vuitton dress with a low-cut front and slit detail at the bottom. She paired the look with glossy waves and some fun steel-capped court shoes

9. Linda Cardellini in Zuhair Mura
Critics Choice Awards 2019
Green Book's Linda Cardellini managed to successfully pull off the sheer trend without making it look too racy for award season. This was partly because the actress' Zuhair Murad dress featured feminine polka-dot print and ladylike ruffles. Her elegant updo finished off the look perfectly.

10. Olivia Munn in Andrew Gn
Critics Choice Awards 2019
Olivia Munn also embraced the black-and-white theme that seemed to take over the red carpet last night, wearing a sweet polka-dot gown by Andrew Gn. The dress featured a chic black bow and ruffled detail at the top and she wore her hair partly up.
